Scott "Sir Scoots" Smith, a foundational figure in esports, has shaped the industry through decades of leadership, advocacy, and passion.Scott "Sir Scoots" Smith is a trailblazer in the world of competitive gaming, with a career spanning over two decades that helped lay the groundwork for modern esports. Known for his sharp insights, ethical stance, and dedication to player rights, Scott has left an indelible mark on the industry as a leader, broadcaster, and innovator.

Early Days and Rise in Esports

Scott’s journey in esports began in 1999 with Counter-Strike, where his passion for gaming and knack for organization quickly set him apart. As a key staff member of GotFrag, a pivotal early esports news and community platform, he helped connect players and fans during the industry’s infancy. After Major League Gaming (MLG) acquired GotFrag, Scott transitioned into GotfragTV production leveraging his prior experience managing logistics for major brands like Coca-Cola and American Express.

Leadership and Influence

Scott’s leadership roles solidified his reputation as a cornerstone of esports. As Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Evil Geniuses, he worked alongside CEO Alex Garfield to elevate the organization’s global presence. He later served as COO of OneMoreGame.TV, co-hosting the influential Live on Three talk show, which offered candid discussions on esports trends and challenges. His strategic vision and blunt honesty made him a respected voice in the community.

 

A frequent presence at major tournaments, Scott excelled as a desk host, analyst, and interviewer for MLG’s Counter-Strike Majors and other Western esports events. His ability to engage audiences with wit and expertise made him a fan favorite and a trusted figure in the scene.

Advocacy for Player Rights

Beyond operations and broadcasting, Scott has been a fierce advocate for esports athletes. In 2017, he played a key role in addressing the Player Esports Association (PEA) controversy, pushing for fair treatment and transparency in professional gaming. Through platforms like The Eavesdrop podcast, he championed discussions on player unionization and the need for sustainable career paths in esports.

Current Endeavors

Today, Scott remains active as Co-Founder and Managing Director of DNPeek a production company that creates white label and original content focused on gaming and esports and focuses also on fundraising content for charities. While working full time at DNPeek he continues to share his insights on X @SirScoots where he engages nearly 50,000 followers with commentary on gaming, esports, and life. Describing himself as “critical and outspoken (retired)” and a lover of lyrics, Scott’s influence endures as a mentor and thought leader.
